The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester (MHCGM) is now offering a new treatment option aimed at helping those who suffer from Major Depressive Disorder. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Services, provided at Bedford Counseling Associates, a subsidiary program of The Mental Health Center, is open for referrals. While there are many effective treatments for depression, first-line approaches such as antidepressants and psychotherapy do not work for everyone. Unfortunately, Depression is the leading cause of disability in the United States among people ages 15 to 44.

TMS is a non-invasive FDA-approved medical procedure that delivers brief magnetic pulsations to specific areas of the brain. The TMS pulses stimulate the brain without surgery, anesthesia, or sedation, and patients are awake and alert throughout the procedure. TMS has been shown to be a safe and well-tolerated procedure that can be an effective treatment for adult patients with depression who have not benefitted from first-line treatment approaches. TMS Therapy is available by prescription only, and candidates must be referred to MHCGM by their Medical Practitioner.
