CMC’s Mertzic to receive community service award at mental health benefit

MANCHESTER — Paul Mertzic of Catholic Medical Center will be honored later this month with the Community Leadership Award during the Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester’s annual dinner benefit.

Mertzic, CMC’s executive director of community health and mission, was selected as the 2017 honoree and will receive the award Oct. 23 during the benefit dinner at the Derryfield Country Club.

The Mental Health Center included a statement from Mertzic’s nomination in a release announcing he had been selected for the award.

“He is a great example of a servant leader – never expecting others to do what he himself is unwilling to do,” the unnamed nominator wrote.

Dr. Robert E. Drake, an internationally known professor of psychiatry at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, will receive the Wheelock-Nardi Advocacy Award at the benefit.

The featured speaker will be author Gloria Norris, who grew up in Manchester and published her memoir, Kookooland, last year.
