PRESS RELEASE 3.29.07--The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Bureau of Behavioral Health (BBH) today honored three of New Hampshire’s community mental health centers for excellence in mental health care. The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester won two awards, one for greatest consistency to evidence-based practices and one for having the best support structure in place to offer evidence-based practices. Community Partners of Strafford County won the award for greatest percentage of clients who receive evidence-based practice care. Northern Human Services’ Berlin Office won the award for greatest consistency to evidence-based practices at a single site.
“Our goal in providing mental health care is to move people to the next level, and to get them back to living productive, meaningful lives,” said John Stephen, DHHS Commissioner. “Evidence-based practices are a proven way to manage and recover from mental illness. The centers that received awards today are leaders in building a culture of recovery and improvement for those individuals who need care. We commend them for their outstanding efforts to help those with mental illness move to get their lives back and achieve independence.”
The awards were given out at a ceremony today in Concord. Erik Riera, BBH Bureau Administrator, worked with the Dartmouth Evidence-Based Practices Center, as well as a multidisciplinary review team headed by Elizabeth Fenner-Lukaitis of BBH, to review the state’s community mental health centers and identify those centers who performed the highest in compliance with the standards. The awards have been supported federally by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
“These awards recognize the great strides New Hampshire has taken in transforming our mental health system, and the efforts of our providers in reshaping and improving the quality of services delivered,” added Riera. “Our focus on evidence-based practices is a reflection of the state’s commitment to ensure that we are investing our resources in providing services that have demonstrated their effectiveness in helping people with mental illness. These providers have shown their commitment to achieving these goals.”
