How You Can Help

Advocacy

Service to the community can be accomplished in many ways. It may be the result of volunteer efforts, professional service and dedication, or the coordinated work of a group or team of individuals. Support our “Guiding Values and Principles” by promoting efforts to improve the mental health of our community and improve the lives of those living with mental illness.

“Silver Ribbon Campaign for the Brain” is a grass roots movement to promote public awareness of the need for research and support of people with brain disorders and disabilities. Employees of The Center are asked to wear the Silver Ribbon as a powerful statement against stigma and discrimination and to open the door to personal conversations about mental illness. Click here to find out more about the “Silver Ribbon” project: www.SilverRibbon.org.

On an annual basis, The Center recognizes those who promote advocacy by presenting The Wheelock-Nardi Advocacy Award. This award recognizes individuals or organizations whose advocacy and community service has benefited persons affected by mental illness and honors the legacy of former NH Hospital Superintendent Major Wheelock, and the late Theodora Nardi, former NH state representative. These two individuals authored the 1982 Wheelock-Nardi report that resulted in dramatic and innovative changes in the delivery of mental health care in the state of New Hampshire.
